My studio is filled with light as the day gets under way. Clay sits in bins
ready to be reclaimed. Pots await finishing before loading into the kiln.
Cake plates sit ready for a coat of glaze. Bags of clay are piled next to
the pottery wheel waiting to be transformed into functional tableware.
Drawings sit on the table with ideas for a new teapot.
I have been working with clay for the past 5 years. I always knew I
wanted to make things with clay - since having great experiences with
clay as a child.... It's a medium that provides for unlimited exploration
and engagement.
My work is mostly functional tableware, teaware and vases. These are
thrown on the wheel and then turned and finished. This informs the
layout of my cozy studio.

Glazing takes place on a large central table. This also where glazes are mixed.
A bench for decorating is laid out
with decals ready for application and paper and pen sit ready for
design inspiration. A kiln sits in a large brick fireplace to one side.

| I like the challenge presented by the technical aspects of the craft. I
don’t think I will ever tire of working at the mastery of creating forms
on the wheel, or gathering the knowledge and troubleshooting skills
required for creating glazes. At the moment I enjoy playing with the
juxtaposition of sharpness of machine and computer manipulated
imagery – with the softness, variation and hand made quality of the
wheel thrown porcelain forms.
